SAFETY
Accommodations are made to intentionally create a safe environment, both physically and mentally.
Peer Support
Peer support and mutual self-help and encouraged as key vehicles for establishing safety and hope, building trust, enhancing collaboration. The diverse stories and lived experiences of the community are called upon to promote recovery and healing.
Empowerment
The strengths and experiences of every individual are recognized and validated. Decision making, choice, and goal setting are done collaboratively to determine the path for healing (based on a belief in resilience and the ability to heal from trauma).
Trustworthiness & Transparency
Decisions are made with transparency, and with the goal of building and maintaining trust
Bonding & Partnership
Importance is placed on partnering and the leveling of power differences demonstrating that healing happens in relationships and in the meaningful sharing of power and decision-making.
Humility & Responsiveness
Biases and stereotypes (e.g., based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, geography) and historical trauma are recognized and addressed.
